Tune by Mozaiklabs

Library Management

Tune indexes your audio files, reads their tags and builds a library you can search, filter and organise. This page covers adding music, supported formats, and correcting and enriching metadata.

Adding music

Local folders

Open Settings › Library › Locations, click Add a folder and enter the path as seen by the machine running Tune. Then run Scan the library.

Network shares (NAS)

  • SMB: on macOS and Linux (including Tune OS), Tune can mount a share itself. In Locations, choose Add network share (SMB), look for shares on the network (Scan the network) or type the NAS address, and give credentials if the share is protected. The share is mounted again at every start.
  • Windows, NFS and other cases: mount the share in the operating system (network drive, /etc/fstab…), then add the mounted folder like a local one.
  • Media Servers (Advanced level): this screen browses the DLNA/UPnP servers on the network (for example a NAS acting as a UPnP server) without importing them.

Scanning and keeping up with changes

Once the library has been scanned, Tune watches the folders. Added, renamed or moved files and folders, and changed cover images, are picked up without a new full scan. On a network share, the system does not tell Tune about changes, so Tune checks the share every 15 minutes. The sidebar shows "Library scan…" while a scan runs. Folders (Advanced level) lets you browse your music folder by folder.

Supported formats

FamilyExtensions
Lossless.flac, .wav, .aiff/.aif/.aifc, .m4a (ALAC), .alac, .wv (WavPack), .ape (Monkey's Audio)
DSD.dsf, .dff, SACD .iso images
Lossy.mp3, .m4a/.aac (AAC), .ogg/.oga, .opus
Containers.mkv, .mka, .webm, .weba (except AC-3, E-AC-3 and TrueHD tracks)
CD imagesCUE sheets, including with a .bin/.img image

Not supported: WMA, Musepack, TTA, Shorten, OptimFROG, DTS/AC-3, .m4b audiobooks, and DST-compressed SACDs (these go through the external sacd_extract tool). Decoding does not need ffmpeg.

Browsing the library

  • Library tabs: Albums, Artists, Tracks, Genres, Years and Labels (the last three from the Advanced level), Recently added, Box sets.
  • Filters: source, quality (DSD, Hi-Res, CD, lossy), sample rate, bit depth, format, dynamic range (DR), compilations.
  • Sorting: title, artist, year, recently added, dynamic range, random.
  • Oxygen: a more detailed column view (composer, etc.).

Correcting metadata

On an album page, Edit opens the editor (title, artist, year, genre, tracks…). Your corrections are first saved in Tune's database. To also write them into the files' tags, use Write to files in the editor. Also on an album page:

  • Re-identify: run the album identification again (MusicBrainz);
  • Select, then change the artist or genre of several tracks at once;
  • Locate on disk: show where the files are;
  • Add to favourites, Tags, Add to a collection.

Enrichment

Settings › Library › Enrichment (Expert level) fills in data from MusicBrainz, Discogs and other sources: metadata, artist portraits, missing covers, release types, credits. Enrichment started by hand is limited by a daily quota. Automatic enrichment after each scan requires a Tune Premium licence.

The Metadata screen (Studio group, Expert level) gathers the checking tools: Proposals, Doubtful albums, Duplicates, Genre tree, Dynamic Range, Compilations, Box sets, Missing.

Background analyses

After the scan, Tune analyses the library in the background:

  • ReplayGain: loudness measurement (EBU R128). It never overwrites tags already in your files.
  • Dynamic range (DR): taken from the "DYNAMIC RANGE" tag, from foobar2000 foo_dr.txt files in album folders, or measured by Tune.
  • Audio fingerprints: used to detect duplicates.
  • Identification and enrichment, artist photos and covers.

These analyses slow down on their own during playback, during a scan, or when the machine runs hot. Set their speed in Settings › Audio › Background analysis speed; the Server status screen shows their progress. A pause stays in effect after a restart.

Box sets, collections, playlists

  • Box sets: Tune groups multi-disc sets on its own (one folder per disc, CUE sheets, disc numbers). You can also group albums by hand, or split a set with Undo box set.
  • Collections: Smart Collections (rule-based), Collections (manual) and Shelves tabs.
  • Playlists: Playlists and Smart playlists tabs. A smart playlist fills itself from rules (all or any), with criteria such as title, artist, genre, composer, label, format, sample rate, bit depth, year, tags, play count or date added, plus a sort order and a limit. M3U import and export. .m3u/.pls files found during the scan are imported.
  • Playlist transfer and sync between services (TIDAL, Qobuz, Spotify, Deezer): the Playlists converter extension, which requires a Tune Premium licence.
  • Listen later, Tags, Favourites, Banned tracks: in the Selections group of the sidebar.

History and Dashboard

History lists what you have played. The Dashboard (Advanced level) shows widgets: trend, hour of day, top albums and tracks, plays by zone and by source.

Concerts

The Concerts extension (Tune Premium licence) lists upcoming concerts by artists in your library near the town you enter (Concerts near you).

Importing from another player

Settings › System › Import from another player brings in data from Roon or Plex.
