Keyboard Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts in the Tune web interface. The playback shortcuts act on the currently selected zone. The keys are the same on Mac and PC: where a combination differs, both are given (⇧ is the Mac Shift key, ⌘ its Cmd key).

Playback

Active on every screen.

KeyAction
SpacePlay / pause
NNext track
PPrevious track
S (or the Stop media key)Stop playback (no effect on live radio)
Shift + → (Mac: ⇧ + →)Next track
Shift + ← (Mac: ⇧ + ←)Previous track

On the Now Playing screen

The arrow keys on their own control playback only on the Now Playing screen (on a small screen: when the Now Playing panel is open). Everywhere else they scroll the page.

KeyAction
→Skip forward 10 seconds
←Skip back 10 seconds
↑Volume up 1 %
↓Volume down 1 %

In Big screen mode

Big screen mode gives the arrow keys a different meaning from the Now Playing screen: left and right change track instead of moving within the track. Space, N, P, S and M keep working there.

KeyAction
→Next track
←Previous track
↑Volume up 1 %
↓Volume down 1 %
EscLeave Big screen mode (a single press, even in full screen)

Volume

KeyAction
MMute / restore the previous level (50 % if no level was saved)

In the Library: type to search

When no field has focus, there is no need to click into the Library search before typing.

KeyAction
A letter, digit or symbolPuts the cursor in the search field and types the character there
/Puts the cursor in the search field without typing anything, for a search that starts with a reserved letter (“Pink Floyd” starts with P)
Esc (in the search field)Leaves the search field and gives focus back to the previous element

Space, N, P, S, M and the arrow keys keep their shortcut meaning and are never typed into the search. A letter typed with Ctrl, Alt or ⌘ is left to the browser's shortcuts; AltGr composes characters as usual (@, #…). Nothing happens while an album sheet, an editor or a menu covers the grid.

Rows and lists

KeyAction
← / → on a row of covers that has focusScroll the row
↑ / ↓ on a drag handleMove the item by one place: Home widgets, Shortcuts screen, tracks of a playlist, discs and tracks when editing an album

iOS app on iPad and Mac

With a keyboard (iPad with a keyboard, or the iPad app on a Mac), since build 20: ← and → turn the section carousel at the top of the screen. An outline around the section title shows that it is receiving the arrow keys. They respond only at the top level of a section, while the carousel is expanded; a text field being edited keeps its arrow keys. The Settings carousel does not respond to the arrow keys.

Good to know

  • Shortcuts are inactive while an input field has focus (search, editing, drop-down list…).
  • A zone must be selected.
  • N, P, S and M do nothing when combined with Ctrl (PC) or ⌘ (Mac), so browser shortcuts keep working.
  • Esc closes menus, panels and dialogs.
  • In the field where you type a volume value, Enter confirms it and Esc cancels it.
  • With the mouse, double-clicking the play button stops playback.
  • In a track list, Shift + click (Mac: ⇧ + click) on a checkbox selects a whole range of tracks.
  • On a row of covers, Shift + mouse wheel (Mac: ⇧ + wheel) scrolls it.
